Artova, Tokat'ın bir ilçesidir. Tokat il merkezine 38 km. uzaklıktadır. Son nüfus sayımına göre 2000 yılı nüfusu 5610 kişidir. 1 Haziran 1944`te ilçe olmuştur.
Artova İlçesi ve Tarihçesi
Artova;Tokat İline bağlı bir bucak iken, Mart 1921 tarihinde Sulusaray mevkii İlçe Merkezi olmak üzere Mülki taksimatta yer almıştır. 1923 yılında meydana gelen depremden büyük zarar görünce, şu anda merkez ilçeye bağlı bucak olan Çamlıbel İlçe Merkezi yapılmış olup, 01 Haziran 1944 tarihinde Artova İlçe Merkezi olmuştur Bazı tarihi kaynaklar Artova İlçesinin kuruluşunun Yavuz Sultan Selim'in Çaldıran seferine dayandırmaktadırlar Evliya Çelebi Seyahatnamesinde '...Şimale doğru giderek Çamlıbel dağından, Sivas Eyaleti toprağında mahsulü çok, mamur ve müzeyyen kasaba misali köylerden geçtik. Arıkova (Artova) Kasabasına geldik. Oradan da yine şimale giderek Şeyh Nusrettin Tekkesine uğradık kaydı bulunmaktadır.
Coğrafi Yapısı
Artova İlçesi Tokat İline 38 Km. mesafededir. Enlemi: 36 derece 30 dakika, boylamı: 05 dakikadır. Yüzölçümü ise 493 Km2 olup, deniz seviyesinden yüksekliği 1170 Metredir. İklimi zamanla Karadeniz iklimi karekteri gösterse de genellikle bir kara iklimi hakimdir. İlçeye bağlı 27 köy genellikle düzenli bir biçimde belirli güzergahlarda gruplaşmıştır. İlçenin kuzeyinde 4 köy, Zile yolu istikametinde 11 köy,Güneydeki grup yolu üzerinde 7 köy, Yeşilyurt yolu istikametinde ise Kunduz ve Kunduzağılı köyleriyle, Çelikli beldesi bulunmaktadır. Buna ilaveten kunduz bağlantısı üzerinde 3 köy mevcuttur. Ulaşım imkanları yeterlidir. Araziler ve nüfusun yoğunluğu çekerek ırmağı vadisi ile Sivas-Samsun demir yolu üzerindedir. İlçemizin kuzeyinde 20 km. uzunluğunda bir kara yolu ile Sivas- Tokat kara yoluna, Güneyindeki karayoluyla da Yeşilyurt ve Sulusaray ilçesine ulaşılır. Köy Hizmetleri sorumluluğunda Zile- Artova arası 60 km uzunluğunda asfalt yolla kaplıdır. Ayrıca Aşağıgüçlü, Sağlıca köyü ve Çelikli Kasabasına ilçe merkezi asfalt yollarla bağlantısı vardır
